No worries, Michele. Working for a NJ state school myself, I completely understand the "time warp" concept. It's great to hear that you're making progress, digging in, having fun and getting to use both sides of your terrific brain. How'd you end up with your choice of PhD programs? Still tossing it around? Great to hear your "baby" is settled into 7th grade, too. Mine is in 6th grade, and we're all missing her big sister, who accepted admission to The College of New Jersey - our state's "honors" college with a price tag significantly below all the top schools, even after their award offers. This would have been an even tougher year if she'd gone private instead of public, so as much as we miss her, we're VERY grateful to her for making such a responsible choice!
Keep in touch whenever you can - once a year is better than nonce!

Hi Michele,
You'll be great in a PhD program, and you'll kick butt in the classroom. I know what you mean about the pace of public colleges, especially those in any state system. You'll get used to it, like it or not. There's a rhythm that begins to make sense when you realize they're in it for the very long haul. On my end, our system is much smaller than the SUNY behemoth, but we grind exceedingly fine as well. My own job has started to include strategic planning for the College's next five years, which has been a lot of fun. At home, Jack is taking some online science pre-reqs before enrolling in a doctor of physical therapy program he'd like to take, even as our oldest, Erica, applies to Amherst, Penn, Georgetown, etc. Wish me luck! Our son Jack is playing the trumpet for the HS marching band, acting in plays and singing in musicals - he's a real performer, but has also begun to give his senior sister a run for her GPA on the honor roll - they are within .02 grade points of one another. Our "baby" Bethann is the equestrian, riding horses every spare moment, both English and Western disciplines. Never thought I'd be a 4H mom, but here I am! When she's untacking and sorting her gear, I hop on the horses bare or with just a saddle pad and walk around a little - lots of fun!
OK, back to work for me - keep in touch,

Hey Michele!
Wow, big changes, eh? Congratulations on that admissions job - good for you! I'll bet you inspire more people to transform their lives than any other admissions professional who's ever graced the SUNY system!

Keep in touch,
-Claudine
