Responsibilities
The instructional designer is responsible for assisting CPS faculty and staff in the design and delivery of high quality and effective distance learning courses. Reporting to the Associate Director of Distance Learning, works collaboratively with program directors, administrators, technical staff, and other instructional design staff, the instructional designer helps determine appropriate instructional design methods to help faculty design and deliver distance learning. By providing training and consultation to faculty, the instructional designer helps them draw on a range of established resources and best practices to deliver new online and hybrid courses and adapt existing courses for delivery online, including online readiness assessments, evaluation mechanisms, threaded discussions, multi-media and other internet based resources. The instructional designer plays a key role in course production process, working with faculty and administrators to ensure course delivery deadlines are met. This position is also responsible for designing and facilitating workshops and other training to support faculty in their online teaching and for providing ongoing support and evaluation of course materials so NU Online faculty can adjust their online and hybrid courses to maximize student learning and educational outcomes.
Qualifications
Minimum of Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology or related field. At least 2 years as an instructional designer and trainer. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills required. The ability to persuade, lead, motivate, instruct, act as part of a team, and prioritize projects and activities required. Solid experience with distance learning programs in high tech or higher education and familiarity with common Learning Management Systems necessary. Expert desktop publishing skills required. Demonstrated understanding of instructional design methodologies and adult learning theory is necessary. Ability to analyze processes and procedures and make suggestions for improvement is necessary. Flexibility and adaptability are key rapidly work environment where needs change quickly.

This position requires a level of technical knowledge and experience and/or
certifications that will allow the individual to effective plan, deliver and
maintain coursework on a variety of technology hardware, software, operating
systems and databases.
This position will also assist staff in developing instructional materials,
tutorials, pod casts, web-based content and presentations using a variety of
technology resources.
The position is a key support resource for faculty in the integration of
technology into the teaching and learning process. Important areas of focus
include:
- Developing strategies to promote effective use of the University course
management system and associated tools for the exchange of course
content;
- Evaluating and implementing technologies in classrooms and other learning
spaces at the University;
- Working closely with individual faculty to identify, develop, and deploy
technologies to meet their teaching objectives.
This may require ongoing analysis and management of specific projects to
ensure that faculty needs are clearly articulated throughout the IT
organization and that necessary resources and coordination are in place to
successfully complete projects.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with teaching and teaching
methodologies, familiarity with standards-based and performance based
instruction, understanding of national educational technology standards and
their relationship to higher education.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with a variety of instructional
technologies in education including, but not limited to computers,
projectors, interactive white boards, multimedia projectors, classroom
management systems, video recording and editing equipment as well as
instructional software applications.
Experience with training concepts and techniques; five years experience in
offering and planning staff development for technology; Ability to utilize a
variety of electronic resources and multimedia technologies for classroom
and professional development activities; Experience in the use of word
processing, spreadsheet, database and graphic layout programs; Experience
with computer use configuration and troubleshooting; Ability to communicate
effectively in written and verbal context; Ability to learn new programs

Thanks for posting this Lisa, even though the position has been filled (reading this post months later) it has motivated me to see how I can convert my current courses into true distance learning options.
The RFP is written to solicit responses from a broad range of web site design and implementation service providers, and as such includes questions oriented toward the entire spectrum of providers from small to large. VGBN is open to working with with any size provider provided they meet our needs and qualifications. Aspects of this RFP are negotiable, but we needed a place to start and so decided to start with the most comprehensive view.
Proposals are due April 17, 2009. Please feel free to ask any questions of me, Tom Good, and I will try to provide and distribute the answers we give to all invited and known respondents. We have invited 8 firms to respond, and will also post information on our web site. VGBN has budgeted a substantial, but confidential amount, of funds for this project. Job Description:
Plymouth State University seeks a Coordinator of Online Education to guide the University's online and blending learning operations. The Coordinator will engage executive leadership in defining institutional strategy for distance education including planning budgets and managing resources. The Coordinator administers instructional design/development projects and works with the online learning team in guiding the process from the analysis of needs through the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of the instructional product. The Coordinator also works directly with faculty to conceptualize and create online courses that address the same learning outcomes as those courses delivered in more traditional formats. This position is responsible for coordinating follow-up and support to faculty as they incorporate new technologies into their online and blended courses. The Coordinator will serve as a leader in determining instructional technology issues, priorities, planning implementation, and evaluation. The Coordinator will actively participate in outcomes assessment of online learning initiatives, supervise an instructional designer/training coordinator and multimedia specialist, and report to the Director of the Library and Learning Commons. The Coordinator will have an option to teach up to one online course per year.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and four years of experience in information technology field, Associate's and six years, or combination of education and experience equal to eight years. An ability to work in a team environment with ability to prioritize and work independently. College teaching online and in the classroom is required.
